Antipole (Xbox 360, PC, Nintendo DSi)

Antipole is the latest game from indie developer Saturnine Games, a platformer with that retro feeling from the days when the original Mario and Sonic games were graphically amazing. The difference is you can bend gravity to your will. Enter Johnny Hurricane a guy who I thought when he first came on screen was a side kick to a certain master thief with a love of red clothes. You are immediately thrust into a tutorial level of how to control Johnny which is pretty easy to follow and the level set up isn’t too hard on the eyes either.

Once the tutorial level is over you begin your first real level and the difficulty kicks up a notch, Antipole has the heart stopping moments where you think you have mistimed a jump. A reminder I had all too frequently in games like Crash Bandicoot. The music is a nice touch to the game which really feels like you have stepped back in time to a simpler time when games had no quick time events. It has no in depth story line to speak of and its just purely focused on the gaming aspect, if you want a game to directly dive into with a retro feel to it then Antipole is definitely for you.

Antipole is a lot of fun to play because of the gravity controlling aspect of it and also the fast shooter Johnny has at his disposal, Antipole gets a high score from me and for the cheap price it is selling at is well worth a buy if you enjoy the retro style games.

We like:

  • The style of gaming
  • The straight forward no nonsense gaming style
  • That retro feeling.

We hate:

  • Nothing
