The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition (Xbox 360)

Such is the grandeur of this game jointly developed by the two gaming stalwarts CD Projekt and Metropolis Software House that it has changed the expectation of the entire generation whatsoever. Yes, I say these words in true sense and a good faith I have over these two game makers. It is something that you do not come across quite often. It’s all about an unfathomable skill blended with some incredible imagination that can only be dreamt of!

It is a fantasy. Well. That’s an understatement. It has all the ingredients of a fantasy but it has surpassed everything that is expected of a fantasy. Everything – the getup, the special effects, the storyline, the sound effects, the characters and their depths, the twists n turns that you face as you play the game – all the simply outstanding to say the least!

Let’s start on a simple note. If it has been all about stepping into the shoes of a hero who wins the battle between good and bad you have something different. Here, you get into the stride of a un-hero or better to say a monster named Geralt of Rivia. He cannot remember things and that sets of the tone of the story. The fact that he is not very comfortable with beautiful ladies does not help him either and take him in the midst of the trouble that he faces. And when we speak of trouble, it’s not a child’s play. It’s not all about a petty battle between good and bad or fighting some zombies out. Its trouble in truest sense – trouble with a complex political dimension that puts the protagonist in all kinds of doldrums and take him to a past that only haunts him every now and then. This is not the game for the kids. To be frank, it’s a game for the adults. The very concept is not for the would-be-adults to fathom. Presence of sex and violence, rude language and the bloodbath make the game even more unsuitable for t he children. But that does not rob the game any of its pragmatism and grandeur. Rather, it has added a ‘x-factor’ that will be cherished for long. Parents will surely be hiding this game from the children who in turn will be hell-bent to access it. That’s the beauty of a successful game. It takes an entire generation by storm.

We like:

  • The storyline
  • The special effects
  • The sound effects
  • The picture perfect outdoors that take the gamer to a strange world
  • Some spectacular voice acting

We hate:

  • A bit too much violence and some scenes with sexual content that could well have been averted
